I’ll try to be brief! I know it is said you have used Lt Col Henry Ridge’s exploits in Badajoz. I was brought up on that not surprisingly! I descend from a Major Robert Ridge b 1764 who resigned from the madras native infantry as a major in 1805 and so was presumably involved in the wars against Tipu and may have been at Assaye. The two Ridges are related; some say brothers. I have been to Badajoz and Cuidad Rodrigo and would love to tied down the Madras Native Infantry but they kept changing. I think he was commissioned into the 15th. I’d be MOST grateful if you could suggest where I might get more info on Major Robert and his life. He resigned as he was wounded. When he died, in Balliansloe in Ireland (he must have been horsey) they dug the bullet out (and my grandmother said he coughed up a bit of his tunic!- she was descended too: 1 in 10 of that sort of class married a cousin!)Best wishes Rupert Ridge
