Dear Mr Cornwell, You mention in a recent posting that Sharpe is entirely fictitious, but doesn’t his name derive from that of Charles Richard Sharpe VC? (1889-1963, award date 9 May 1915, Rouges Bancs.) No particular reason to ask, I’d just always assumed.
