Hello Bernard As an avid reader of the Sharpe novels and those about the American Civil war I have a historical question for you. Did the campaigns of Sharpe (Napoleon) ever reach the Island of Madeira. My wife has traced her family back to the 1700`s and several were in the Essex regiment. One of the soldiers family was in fact born off the coast of Madeira (1811) could this have been during the Napoleonic wars. He was baptised in Exeter Devon in 1819. Also were there Devon and Irish regiments, I know Harper was Irish and you refer to some Irish soldiers in books. I am looking forward to getting your books on the American war of Independence. I live in Northern Cyprus and books in English are few and far between Many thanks. Best wishes, Lawrence Briggs
