Dear Mr.Cornwell I started reading from a young age thanks to the encouragement from my father. The first proper books I read were the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, and they had a profound effect upon me. I asked my father what books I should read and he dug a few books out for me. He came up with a huge stack of books that he suggested would be good for me, however being at such a young age I naturally just picked the one off the top. This luckily was Sharpe’s Tiger, after reading Sharpe’s Tiger I went on to read the rest of the Sharpe books. All this took me about a year as I was a very slow reader then. I went on to read just about whatever my father threw at me (this included things like the Earthsea Trilogy and much more). However I managed to exhaust my fathers supply of ‘suitable books’ and I decided that I had had my fill of these ‘adult’ novel (for the moment, at least) and decided to read some fantasy books that were written for my age. Since then I have read (and re-read!) hundreds of books. After I had satiated my appetite fro reading I began to think about ideas for books and I found I had a hidden talent for writing and even poetry! I started writing short stories in my english classes at school and my teachers were amazed by my nearly adult vocabulary and mental outlook. It was in my 2nd year of secondary school that I had my really good idea for a story, i started to write it in my spare times and in my holidays but i found that i had a flaw in writing. I can’t bulk out my story, I have the general idea but I am not sure how to link up the events. It doesn’t help that I only have small amounts of time to write because of homework and coursework, so this means my train of thought gets disrupted continually. I’ve read your “advise on writing” but it didn’t help me with my problem Can you give me any tips on how I can fill in the gaps between the events? Charlie P.S sorry about the hugely long message
