We’re avid Sharpe readers, and saw an earlier post on here about the folk songs in the books – we were just wondering if you’d ever come across the song “The Men They Stand and Stay” while researching these songs, as it’s about fighting the French in Spain (rifles are also mentioned). We’re basically trying to find its origins and are stumped… Just wondering if you’d heard of it. It can be found at www.mudcat.org and www.thesession.org – if you haven’t seen it, it may be worth a look (we love it but have no idea where it’s from!). A Few Nonplussed Fans
