Dear Bernard, I am a great fan of most of the books you have wrote Sharpe,Grail,Saxon and the Arthur series. A question I would like to ask is why did give Derfel the ending he had ie becoming a monk and having to serve Sansom but he became a hero just as much as Arthur was in the books, I know he did what he did to save his wife but it seems a bit of a unhappy ending for such a hero who done so much for Britain.

The other question I have is this. Derfel and Uthred I see as very much the same character. The one thing that stands out is that they are both Pagans, was this a choice you made for both of these characters and why. Thanks for your time Darren
