dear sir, just a question about how the British army worked really. As Sharpe was gazetted Major does that mean that if he wanted to he could seek a commission as a Lt Colonel in another regiment? Also, I read some where that when the British returned to the peninsular most of the army was made up of 2nd battalion’s, and I was wondering if this was so? I got the impression that 2nd battalions were recruitment mostly, and men were taken from it to bring the 1st up to strength. Thank you once again for taking the time to respond. Chris G
