I have just finished reading Sharpe’s Fury (which I thoroughly enjoyed by the way) and I have a question. Is the Major Gough featured in the book the same Gough who ended up a general who so distinguished himself in the Indian mutiny (by then he was known as General Paddy Gough)? On another point, many people have commented on how much they enjoyed Sean Bean’s performances as Sharpe but that he didn’t resemble your Sharpe physically. I was watching Coronation Street last night and suddenly noticed that bad boy builder Charlie Stubbs (or rather the actor playing him) was a dead ringer for Sharpe from your books, pity the actor wasn’t better known when they were casting Sharpe (no disrespect to SB).
