Dear Mr Cornwell, Have read the warlord chronicles, all of Sharpe(I think!) and the saxon chronicles, all of which are great. I would just like to ask a question that has been bothering me for a while now- in the Warlord Chronicles, the flag of Dummmonia is a red dragon. Would that by any chance be where the dragon banner of Wales came from? In the Saxon stories you mention that the Britons retreated into their ancient fastnesses of Cornwall and Wales,so I was just wondering if that was how it came about.
I know you must hear this a lot but I really enjoyed your book, particularly the Arthur novels. I was wondering if there would be any further Arthurian books? Finally, I would like to ask why Derfel and Ceinwyn don’t travel with Arthur on the boat at the end of Excalibur. Surely that would be a fitting end for Lord Derfel Cadarn, rather than being a lonely monk under Sansums eye? Sorry if that sounds disrespectful. Thought all the books were great.
Dear Mr Cornwell, Sorry to bother you again so soon! But I was just wondering what happened to William Fredickson after Sharpe’s Revenge. You hint at it briefly in Waterloo, but can you go on in a bit more detail? I find it sad that one of Sharpe’s loyalest friends finds himself out of the story. Surely he would have been at Waterloo?
Finally (sorry!) in Revenge, when Wellington offers Sharpe a Battalion and a Colonel’s commision, why does he turn it down to become a French farmer!? Ok, so he loved Lucille, but he had wanted promotion and rank since India! Great fan btw, and sorry if I sound accusing. All your books are wonderful.
Yours sincerely, James Doyle-Tanner
