I was re-reading Forester’s “Flying Colours” last night and it occurred to me that you and Mr. Forester usually refer to your heroes by their last names. E.g. — Hornblower, Bush, Brown — Sharpe, Harper, and Dowd. Is that a conscious decision, based on the military way of discussing comrades? Or is a way of keeping some distance from the characters? Or is it uniquely British? Dave McKissack
