Hello from London, Ontario, Canada. I am a long time fan of your writing, starting specifically with the Sharpe series. I have to thank my father in law, whose taste in books is similar to mine and usually passes along everything he reads. I enjoy a variety of books everything freom Dale Brown, Michael Connelly, Ed McBain and many others. The most enjoyable parts of your writings have been the combination of good writing, plus the historical aspects. I must confess I haven’t read them all, all but 2 of the Sharpe series, The Grail Quest and The Saxon Stories. I am currently working through the Arthur books, just finishing the first and less than 1 chapter into Enemy of God. My long drawn out letter leads me to this question. When I initially started the Winter King, I must confess I had a bit of hard time getting started on it. I usually pick them up, and can finish one of your books within 2 or 3 days, depending on my schedule. This slow start could have just been something with me, but the book struck me as a different style of writing for you. I unfortunately can’t put my finger on it, beyond the fact that this series is told in the form of a tale being told after the fact by the lead character. Is there actually a difference in anything else, or just my over extended imagination? I look forward to more of your books in the future, and thank you in advance if you have the time to respond.
