Dear Mr. Cornwell: I thoroughly enjoy your books, and am a true fan of Richard Sharpe. Can you please answer this question for me? I seem to remember that the loathsome Sergeant Hakeswill died in a snake pit in India in 1803, yet he appears in a later Sharpe novel (actually written before the India novels) where he runs off, presumably to join the French army. Did you mistakenly kill Haskeswill in India forgetting that he appears in the later Sharpe novel, or were you simply taking poetic license with respect to this character? Or are you letting us know that Hakeswill can really never be killed? Hope you get around to answering this question, but if not, do not concern yourself. I’m not losing any sleep over this.
