Some years I stepped into the local library, looking for something new to read, as I had grown tired of my usual favorite authors. While scanning over the shelves, I noticed a book that had not been pushed all the way in and stuck out far enough that the cover art caught my eye. The cover depicted a civil war battle with a defiant Confederate infantryman shaking his fist. I had seen this picture before and knew the artist.I pulled Battle Flag off of the shelf and discovered that there were four volumes to the set.I love series books that pick up the story with each successive book by the way. I know I’m going a long way around Sarah’s house with this, but, they were the best books that I had read in several years. The characters and the story lines were terrific and I had a hard time putting either of them down before they were finished. After these four books, I discovered Richard Sharpe, and was equally impressed with each of these books I read. I have since introduced my Father to Nathan Starbuck and Richard Sharp and he just finished reading The Starbuck Chronicles and The Sharpe Series. Well done!! From both of us. We only regret that we ran out of books in each series too quickly and hope that Nate Starbuck will return from furlough to march again soon. I will have to admit that they were good enough that I have read the Starbuck Chronicles twice as well as most of Sharpe’s adventures. We have now moved on to some of your other great works and look forward to each new tale. I was a soldier myself, serving in Operation Desert Storm with the U.S. Army’s First Ranger Battalion, and as Civil War Re-enactor for many years and I can applaud you on your battlefield scene description as being realistic. Anyway, keep up the good work and we are looking forward to Nate’s return. God Bless. SSG. Joe Roberts U.S. Army /Ret./
