Hello, Thank you for talking about your Uhtred ancestors on radio 4 last week. Some time ago I found my great great grandmother on the 1881 census, married to a Thomas Authard. This family didn’t seem to exist anywhere else, but after hearing your interview I tried a slight spelling adjustment. They were called Outhard on later censuses (censi?). I’m a descendant of Mrs O’s base-born son, Robert King Howseman, I assume his father wasn’t a proper Yorkshireman. He made a gap in the branches of my family tree – I’d hoped to make a plate like Josiah Wedgwood’s, showing all his ancestors names radiating from his signature in the centre. Best wishes, B.D.
