Dear Mr. Cornwell, Yesterday I purchased a copy of The Fort. I was intrigued by the subject matter. My 3rd great uncle, Francis Archbald, was at Fort George during the time frame of your novel. He died there in 1779 leaving a wife and two children. As an historic figure, he is significant because he and his brother, with two friends, started the fracas which led to the infamous Boston Massacre. He and his brother took different routes during the rebellion. Francis was a Sergeant Quartermaster in the English Militia and his brother, Edward, was a Captain in the Continental Army. Francis married Mary Goldthwait, the daughter of Col. Thomas Goldthwait, the commander of nearby Fort Pownall. Mary escaped to England with her two children, Catherine and Thomas, and her brother, Captain Thomas Goldthwait, Jr. Of course there is a larger story here which Ill omit but I will read your book with the interest of a family historian. Thank you for all your very captivating novels. I have purchased and read all of your Sharpe Novels, The Saxon Tales, The Nathaniel Starbuck Chronicles and Redcoat. I just finished Agincourt. I will get to the others in due time. Needless to say that I am a great admirer of your work but this latest novel is the first in which I have personal knowledge from genealogical research. Sincerely, Charles E Archbald, II
