Dear Mr Cornwell,
Hello. My name is Dan, I am a 25 year old serviceman in the Royal Air Force, and I hail from Huddersfield in Yorkshire. I have always been an avid reader , and I am very proud to say that Sharpe is my favourite literary series of all. I own each novel, though I am currently in the process of finishing collecting the paperback “action & heroics” covers. Presently all but 5 of my set are such versions. I must admit I do not own Skirmish because I’m a bit of a book traditionalist and I refuse to buy books online as you really cannot beat the feeling of finding and buying it yourself. So, alas, that one will have to wait for now.
In my time serving in the forces I have often found myself inspired by many of your characters and tales often during trying times of my own. They have been a constant source of entertainment and inspiration in my life, and for that I owe you thanks. From what the grapevine seems to suggest it sounds unlikely that Sharpe will be adventuring any more any time soon, which is a monumental shame but all good things do end, after all.
My favourite stories are Havoc and Sword, for being the first one I read and the one that got me cheering out loud when the victory finally came respectively. Thank you for all of your wonderful novels, and keeping a modern soldier in the ranks ever-inspired with what he can achieve through courage and three simple rules.
Regards,
SAC Daniel Washbourne, Royal Air Force
