As, in my mind, I was starting to get confused with Derfel and Uhtred, So I reread the books in chronological order and finally had Uhtred’s thread firmly lodged in my head.
Some weeks ago the BBC ran a three part series on Alfred and his descendants.
At various points in the series I found my self saying things such as “typical ! , Uhtred did all the work and doesn’t even get a mention !
When in the TV series they tell how Edward defeated Cnut, I was saying to my wife, again Uhtred does the hard work and Edward takes the glory !
She then had to remind me that Uhtred was a fictional character.
It says something for your literary skills that makes Uhtred so believable…warts and all.
OK, it is fiction but it is the way history should be told and the way I want to believe it.
