I was just having a casual surf through your site – and had a little grin about your mentioning ‘The Archer’s Tale’ (featured in Grail quest section). You wrote a few sentences about it so it must have annoyed you somewhat! Still, you injected a little humour: if fans of romance would mistakenly purchase a novel about blood-thirsty battles set in the 14th century! Still, there is a bit of romance in your novels…
Back on the historical track, I’m just wondering: how did the French manage to recover from such disastrous defeats during the Hundred Years War? It was a nation rent by internal divisions and mixed loyalties when compared to the rigid social structure of England. Also, Burgundy was more of an ally to England rather than the French province we’re familiar with today. Beset by so many problems, while suffering so many casualties and defeat, how on earth did the mauled French army turn Azincourt’s result on its head? Even with Joan de Arc’s fervent inspiration, it’s still an amazing achievement.
