Since my childhood making models of the brightly coloured soldiers of the Napoleonic wars I have always held an interest in Waterloo and as such received your book as a birthday present from my wife, forty odd years after giving up painting the models! I cannot say how much I enjoyed your book! The explanations, the human content from the quoted letters and eye witnesses accounts and your graphic descriptions of the battles that I can empathise with from my own military service. I don’t normally try to make contact with the authors of the books I read but I thought that I must thank you for writing such an “epic” that kept me enthralled throughout, and even though I obviously knew the result, I was constantly kept metaphorically on the edge of my seat. I am now at a loss as to what to read next! …. Thank you again…
