Just finished “1356”. Most interesting. And, for fun, Shellabarger’s “The King’s Cavalier”
Different ways of looking at things.
I also found Forester’s “The Gun” and “Rifleman Dodd”. He did true third person narratives, occasionally judging from a distance. As he said, the subtlest minds had spend decades figuring out how to make a great soldier. But if they country had spent half as much to make him a good citizen….but they probably wouldn’t.
I keep trying to write. I keep coming out like John D. MacDonald, which is not bad, but.. Travis McGee’s been done.
