Just finished your book Waterloo- a Christmas present. Thank you for making an epic event easier to understand. For some considerable time- since reading your Sharpe novels (have all the books and DVD’s of the TV series) -I have made a study of the Napoleonic Wars; especially in the Peninsular and on to Waterloo!
Clearly with the latter.- after the event- everyone wanted to be part of the story whether they were there or not! After the fog of war the fog of memory? Your account has for me, lifted that fog and allowed me to see the battle(s) and the personalities with greater clarity. Thank you As a footnote I was intrigued at the reproduction of the painting by Richard Ansdell entitled The fight for the Standard – why? Well my address is 42 Fylde Rd Ansdell Lytham St Annes.. Ansdell made his home here amongst the sand dunes here (there wasn’t much else back then) so he could paint in peace. The cottage he lived in is marked by a Blue Plaque!
Once again my sincere thanks – and congratulations- for your book Waterloo.
