Dear Mr Cornwell,

I’ve spent many pleasurable hours reading all your novels originally in paperback/hardback and lately in kindle form. Starting with Sharpe and then all your other series of books and lately the The Last Kingdom Series, and here’s the but, why does England have to be saved by an Englishman who loves the Danes with an Irish sidekick? I am sure many peoples from many regions were present in England at the time, but your choice of heroes does seem to imply Alfred and other prominent Saxon/Angle potentates were, lets be generous, not up to the mark. I feel sorry for them as you have belittled their heritage to some extent. Having said that the Last Kingdom books are still a good read.

Best Wishes

Philip Kench
