Dear Mr. Cornwell,

I have been an avid reader of your works since I was a child, in particular your series concerning Richard Sharpe. I have found it’s a series that I will always return to, no matter what is on my reading list at the time. I especially enjoyed Sharpes Trafalgar, being a serving memeber of the Royal Navy, I found that novel enthralling to the last.

As I’m sure both you and your substantial reader base do, I found substantial attachments to some of your characters, not only to Sharpe and Harper, but also a rather perverse liking for Obadiah Hakeswill as well. There were two characters in particular I grew quite fond, Cpt. Fredrickson and Cpt. D’Alembord. I know that Cpt. Fredrickson was last known to be in America, but always wondered if he forgave Sharpe in the end and found himself a wife, and Cpt. D’Alembord, did he survive his amputation and return as a retired Major to Anne? I like to think both answers to be true, but I was never quite sure.

If you could shed some light on the subject, I would be most greatful.

Yours faithfully,

CW McCluskey.
