Mr. Cornwell —
Thanks so much for all your wonderful books. I have read the Saxon stories (anxiously awaiting the one you’re presently writing), just finished the Arthur trilogy, and am moving on to the archer stories.
My question has to do with the last book of the trilogy “Excalibur”. In it Merlin tells Derfel that the Christians stole a page out of the mythology book of the god Mithras, that Mithras had twelve disciples, turned water into wine, was buried in a cave and came back to life, and that his mother was a virgin. My question is: is this historical fact? i.e., does this mythology of an ancient god name Mithras truly exist, or is this creative license on your part?
Thanks ever so & cheers,
Vikki
