From what I can tell, during the Peninsular war, British officer’s uniforms were a more intense scarlet color than the regular rankers, who’s uniforms were initially more of a brick red, fading over the course of time to a dirty pink. Have you found this to be true in your own studies, or would the rigors of campaigning turn everyone’s tunic a uniform dull red?
