In a November 28th posting, Bryan asked about novels on 1066 and the Norman Conquest. I heartily recommend “Housecarl” by Laurence J. Brown. It tells the story of Ranulf, a housecarl for King Harold Godwinson during that period. His battle scenes are nearly as vivid as yours! He has written a second book “Cold Heart, Cruel Hand” on Hereward the Wake.
