Dear Mr. Cornwell,

I love reading your books, and fortunately there are still a few I haven’t read yet, hopefully I will get the latest “Uhtred” book when we finally get around to Christmas!

Of course I started with Sharpe, but my personal favourites are the Arthur books, which I think are the definitive version of the legend, and tie in with another favourite of mine, the old TV series “Robin of Sherwood”, in their mix of reality and a believable kind of “magic”, if that’s the right word.

But Uhtred is the main man now and both the book and TV series are incredible, I always enjoy your slant on how Christianity has side-swiped and stolen traditions which existed for thousands of years before the Roman change of heart, and the little details about the real origins of those traditions. I can’t bring myself to believe in any religion, but it seems to me that the ancient religions, like the Greek legends, at least make sense in so far as they were the humans way of trying to understand and deal with the world. If you were a sailor, you would pray to the god of the sea, makes perfect sense. Whereas the written-down religions are a mish-mash of nonsense, unconnected with the world we live in.

Anyway, what I meant to say was: love your books, I hope you are well, and have a great year.

Best wishes,

Gary
