A few pages in to “War of the Wolf” and I was convinced we would be getting to the historical time when the Britons (Welsh, Strathclyde Welsh, Dal Riada aided by “?” – how well you developed “?” and broke his heart) made Uhtred think on from his comment of “No” when the Welsh translator offered as a suggestion that they could drive out the “Sais”. I (and my son, 9, who gets my “edited, child-friendly” version of your stories) look forward to how Aethelstan grows and develops to fulfil his grandfather’s dream of an England. Uhtred will be there, conflicted, of course, though he has mellowed a little with age, but he will not like giving up Bebbanburg for Aethelstan’s dream. Incidentally, my younger son asked how old you were and I told him – he told me to tell you not to die before you write the next Uhtred story (children, eh?). May I just say thank you for “War of the Wolf”, my Christmas present – as usual, exquisite.
