Dear Mr Cornwell,
Just wanted to say that I have two daughters, one who has just married and the other about to marry Americans – one from North Carolina and the other from Maine so neatly confederate and union! I have immensely enjoyed all your books from Sharpe to Uhtred but have just finished the Starbuck series and what a great series it is and allowed me to engage with the son-in-laws about the US Civil War. It is very interesting to hear their perspectives and their own experiences of living North and South of the divide which does colour what they have to say, even to this day.
By the way, I live in Poole, close to the village of Studland in the Purbecks. In the cemetery, there is the grave of one Sgt Lawrence on whose gravestone mirrors all the battles that Sharpe fought in – quite extraordinary to see. I don’t know whether you have ever visited but worth doing so if ever in the UK.
Keep up the good work.
Regards
Nigel Dedman
