Dear Mr. Cornwell,
Gesælig Gēares Daeg! Greetings from Nova Scotia. I wanted to take a moment to extend my thanks for the terrific stories over the years. Since these days of Sharpe and Derfel, I have been an avid reader of your books. Though from California, my background is in Celtic (Scottish Gaelic emphasis) Studies and History (Britain & Ireland). To this day, I still love your description of Merlin’s Tor!
A while back, I got bit by the Anglo-Saxon bug and have been learning Old English and even took up playing the lyre. It has been great fun adopting this beautiful and ancient language while immersing myself in the history and culture of this incredibly formative and engaging period. Among other things, I am currently reading The Anglo-Saxon World, by Nicholas J. Higham and Martin J. Ryan which is quite good and highly recommended. Of course, you probably have read it.
Some of my ancestors came from a place called Horton in Ribblesdale. The Saxon Tales are truly fantastic and speak to the Northumbrian in me!
Wes þu hāl und ic thancie þē,
Jason Horton
