I have just begun watching The Last Kingdom and I’m sorry to say that I’m disappointed in the details within it. Details such as the style of clothing, the fabric of the clothing, hair styles etc aren’t correct for this period. The spellings and pronunciation of names… Take Iseult, for example. Her name is actually spelt Eseld and would have been pronounced Eh-s-eh-ld. Iseult is actually the French version of her name. Not to mention the fact that eseld has been given an Irish accent. Eseld predates Arthurian Legend and wasn’t made Irish until Arthurian Legends began.
I grew up watching Sharpe and loved the details within it, so this is really disappointing to me. Especially since I’ve not even finished series 1 yet. I am actually beginning to dread all the following series, given the obvious inaccuracies already apparent in series 1.
I do not wish to cause offence, I just find it very upsetting when details of our history aren’t correct. Whilst I understand adding fictional characters to true, historical events can be necessary, I do still believe where the true facts are, the details should reflect it.
