Dear Mr Cornwell,
So there we are, I’ve just finished reading War Lord, and I wanted simply to say: ‘thank you’.
Not just for War Lord, but for every page of Uhtred you have written over the last (14?) years – I have absolutely loved reading every word!
Over the years each new edition fed into what became a tradition for me, as something to sit down and savour (away from screens), serving as the perfect accompaniment to winter’s arrival.
I’m going to miss him terribly now that his time has come to an add.
As an aside – and I’m sure you won’t remember this – but many moons ago I was the editor of a heavy metal magazine, Metal Hammer, here in the UK, and I wrote to you about a sub-genre called ‘battle metal’.
We discussed you and I via email about how suitable a soundtrack it would’ve made to shield wall warfare, and how one day if they ever made a TV show about Uhtred I would love to be in it.
As a New Year’s resolution I decided to work towards that goal, and am in the midst of serving as an SA on Casualty – working towards getting a gig on Last Kingdom! I’ll keep you posted.
