Dear Mr. Cornwell,
I thought it only fair that I take a moment of my time to thank you for the hours of entertainment you have given me. In particular the adventures of Sharpe and Uhtred and their partners in crime Harper and Finan. For at least the last four years on my birthday I receive a copy of your latest novel in the Last Kingdom series from my wife and this year was no exception. To be fair I receive many books on my birthday. Four of which were the next Sharpe books in chronological order and a few from other authors I enjoy, but I knew one would be War Lord. I glance at my wife and she has the tiniest beginnings of a grin that she can barely contain. In that moment I know which book is contained beneath the wrapping paper I hold in my hand. My smile gets bigger and her grin breaks into a big beautiful smile. She knows I know. Sure enough that book was War Lord.
