I have recently finished Warlord, having thoroughly enjoyed Uhtreds’ story, especially as a native of the NE of England and having visited Bamburgh on many occasions. I am currently living with my son on the moors above Burnley in the NW. Whilst sitting at his kitchen table I can see a cross/monument some 800 yards to the west on top of the fell. I decided to research it and found that it is the Walton Spire, Nelson, built in the 19th century on top of a stone menhir, which you’ll know is a dark age stone. Legend has it that this marks the area of the Battle of Brunanburh. I could hardly believe the coincidence.
