Dear Mr. Cornwell,

I have enjoyed your work for many years now, and it has never crossed my mind to contact you. That changed yesterday, as I was listening to an audio edition of Sharpe’s Sword while painting my kitchen. Your telling of the charge of the German heavy cavalry into the French infantry squares after Salamanca was electrifying. My pulse was pounding, and I felt a surge of adrenaline similar to what I used to feel on the rugby pitch. You made me feel as if it was my loss not to be charging into certain death with the Germans, Sharpe, and Harper. Thank you for that. I enjoyed the entirety of the book, but wanted to express my admiration for that particular section. I have not reacted to any writing so strongly in many years.

Sincerely,

Matthew Coleman
