Dear Bernard

I know you have previously said you weren’t inclined to take Sharpe back again but I wonder if the battle of Redinha would make you change your mind. Wellingtons rep of never losing a battle doesn’t quite stand up with Redinha as he basically lost this battle. Its up there with Burgos and and 2nd Badajoz as his worst performance yet not many historians particularly British Historians are aware of it. He had 25’000 men compared to Ney 7’000, yet Ney completed his objectives, held him off and inflicted more casualties. Having Sharpe on the losing side for a change would be an interesting change of pace from the usual and a reminder that as good as he was, Wellington was not perfect as a Commander.
