Again, 2013 has turned out to be a dark year and, If it’s okay, I’d like to post an obituary. Professor Mick Aston passed away on 24 June, aged 66. He was a great, witty, and inspirational character – well known for his West Midlands accent and colourful knitted sweaters! – and formed part of the excellent Time Team television programme for armchair archaeologists. Mick’s academic expertise was essential to Time Team’s informative content; his enthusiasm proved inspirational and easy to understand. The world of archaeology has indeed lost a superb mind and fantastic person in Mick Aston – yet he certainly left a mark for all to fondly remember.
Deepest regret and condolences to Mick Aston’s family in their time of terrible loss. I heard news of his death on the radio and at once felt moved to tears.
