Dear Mr Cornwell, I’ve enjoyed your books for many years especially the Sharpe books, Do you think a feature film would be made? Anyway I live in Stanford-Le-Hope in Essex and I’ve been reading your Anglo Saxon Chronicle and thought that Benfleet seemed to feature in the stories an awful lot when my sister told me that you came from around there and your family were peculiars. My Great Gran was a Peculiar. Then I read the biog about yourself in the Burning land. Did you know that a large Anglo Saxon village was excavated at Mucking near Stanford-Le-Hope, my mum took me to see the dig when I was a small child and the archaeologist showed me a large bag of bones and explained that the bone fragments were larger as the cremations of the Saxons weren’t as efficient as Roman ones. Did you ever ride your bike down bread and cheese hill without using your brakes? I really enjoy your books especially the Sharpe series, Best regards Mike Feeney
