Dear Mr. Cornwell, I am Brazilian and I have begun reading your books almost by chance. First I read the Thomas of Hookton trilogy and loved it! Then I embarked in the Arthurian saga and fell again in love with Derfel and his friends. My father´s name was Arthur and so he collected all the books ever written about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Sadly he passed out in 2004 so he did not have the chance of reading your extremely accurate and beautiful saga of Arthur but I inherited from him his love of historical fiction. Since finishing the Arthurian saga I have read the first two books of the Saxon tales and again I have fallen in love with Uhtred, for me the most intriguing of your characters and the most passionate. But almost by chance in the end of The Pale Horseman I stumbled in a small book of yours named Sharpe´s Tiger and bought only by curiosity. That was my doom! Here in Brazil we did not have the chance of watching the TV series of Sharpe that the USA and UK citizens had seen, so I have never heard of him. So, one day I began your book and since then I could not stop reading Sharpe´s stories! I am obsessed by the plot. I have finished now Sharpe´s battle and because I do not intend to finish reading the series until the very end I have already bought the entire collection. I am very pleased in learning so much about the Peninsular Wars because we here in Brazil know a lot about the Napoleonic Wars but as the French history tells us about them. I knew almost nothing about Wellington and it is a pleasure to understand this period of the history. And for me Sharpe is the ultimate action hero. He seems to me a little like the character of Die Hard (you could agree that he leads a very charmed life!) and D´Artagnan (a lady’s man that falls in love all the time!) No wonder that he needs Patrick Harper to take care of him! For me you have achieved something rare nowadays: strong characters, interesting plotlines and an historic accuracy very commendably to a novelist that writes about History. I love your notes in the end of the books when you explain what is real and what is fiction in the book. A plus for me, as a Brazilian living in Rio de Janeiro it is very gratifying to learn more about my ancestors (my father´s family comes from Portugal and my mother´s family from Spain). I must congratulate you for the precision of the spelling of the spanish and portuguese names because it is rare in english books. In conclusion, I am a huge fan and I will read faithfully all your books (I am already reserving the 6th of the Uhtred´s books for my holidays). And please, do not forget to write more about Sharpe. He is a rogue but a lovable one and we all love him! Greetings from Rio de Janeiro and thanks for reading my letter. Excuse me my grammar mistakes, I am not very proficient in writing in english. Your brazilian fan, Deniza
