Hi Bernard,

Firstly, amazing stories you tell! Your work has been very inspirational for me, and a consistent part of the narrative of my life. The Warrior Chronicles in particular, I feel a great affinity with Uhtred, a man after my own heart in many ways. I’m a musician, and lyricist, and in an attempt to repay for the joy of reading your books, I felt compelled to compile a verse in their honour! So here goes:

7 kings die and the women they love,

Serpent Breath strikes from an iron fisted glove, Over shield walls, the ravens descend, Once the song of the sword and of agony ends.

Inherited fields of the carrion bird,

Inexorable, your fate is your wyrd,

Fire in the blood from the madness of youth, Traitor’s betrayal, twist of the truth.

Birthright was stolen by treacherous kin, Unbridled passion and lecherous sin, Capricious old gods, die with sword in your hand, In Asgard we drink with both enemy and friend.

Solemn and pious, life bent at the knee, Known as ‘The Great’, the genesis seed, Eyes of the summer skies, golden haired bride, Fortress of granite, of wind and of tide.

I just finished The Pagan Lord, amazing, can’t wait for The Empty Throne. Hope you enjoy the verse!

All the best,

Rick

p.s. Wyrd bið ful aræd!
