There are 26 stories written by Alexander Kent about the Bolitho family that starts with being a Midshipman in 1773.
The stories span the period 1773 right through till Richard is struck down on the deck of his flagship
during Napoleon's escape from Elba.
This story is about his brother's illegitimate son born when the brother defected to the Americans in the war of Independance.
The son Adam Bolitho is captain of H.M.S. Athena and is despatched to the Leeward Isles to deal with renegade slavers (1817 ) who are masterminded by Baron Sillitoe.
Who is a desgraced British government official who is in league with Lady Catherine Somerville a former mistress to Richard Bolitho.
On top of this on board Athena is former desk bound Vice Admiral Bethune who is a former ship mate of Rchard Bolitho and also has a soft spot for Lady Somerville and discusses the plans with her ,she in turn tells Sillitoe and the fun begins.
It concludes with some real swash bucklin in true Sharpe style.
