OLD MORTALITY

Written by: Sir Walter Scott

First of all, I must admit I've not read any of Mr. Cornwell's works, but I'm looking forward to it. He was enthusiastically recommended by a friend in a conversation lamenting the dearth of good storytellers in contemporary fiction. I feel compelled, however, to write a review of an author whose absence in this list is astounding: Sir Walter Scott, the father of the historical novel! Ivanhoe is probably his most accessible work, but I've chosen to recommend 'Old Mortality' because I notice several reviews highly prize a well-told battle scene. I will be very surprised if any of the works mentioned here can top Sir Walter in his depiction of the battle of Drumclog in 'Old Mortality'.
