RED COATS AND GREY JACKETS

This is an excellent account of the battle of Chippwea.
It details the start of the Niagra Invasion of the US and the capture of Fort Erie and the brilliant rearguard action by Thomas Pearson (Probably the best British soldier on the field that day) and then the actual battle itself which, in the words of the US General Jacob Brown, was the first time the Americans beat the British on an open plain. The Numbers engaged were fairly equal (1500 for the US and 1300 for the British and Canadian forces) so that it was a fair fight.
It also destroys many myths of the battle. For instance Jacob Brown and not Winfield Scott was in command of the American force that day. While Rial's famous "Those are regulars by God" speech probably never happened - the only source was Scott writing his memoirs in 64 and who despised the militia.
All in all a gripping read.
