THE KING'S COAT

Fans of BC’s Sharpe and Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey and Maturin will enjoy Dewey Lambdin’s Alan Lewrie series beginning with The King’s Coat, the first of ten so far. Lewrie becomes an unwilling midshipman in the British Navy in 1780 and grows to become a competent sailor and officer whose service spans the period of the Napoleonic wars and includes service in North American waters. Lewrie is a likeable character with an endearing rakish edge. Lambdin has a grasp of sailing and 18th Century naval warfare that will satisfy any ardent fan of that genre and he spins a good yarn.
