I adore reading history and definitly have a preference for pre-1900s fiction/non-fiction. However this book I recommend is a heavy read covering mostly 1914+ (though good old Wellington is mentioned frequently anyway). The Glasgow Herald writes "All interested in the present condition of the human race and the choices before us ought to read this book". World history and politics has always been messy and full of conflict. I do believe a perfect world can only ever be a dream, such is the way of mankind. But it is the conflict that gains our interest so much it seems. Anyway, you will certainly gain a greater understanding of the modern state. Note: Read alongside a Sharpe novel or something just so you can take a break...hehe.
