I just finished my first book by you, "The Last Kingdom." I am embarrassed to tell you but I never read anything by you although I am a historical fiction addict. But, lucky for me, you've written some before(one or two!). That should hold me until my kids are through college (they're 15 and 10!). I'm always reminded of this quote," There are two kinds of readers: one who wants to remember and one who wants to forget." I'm the latter but I like to learn something. May you live forever and never get tired of writing! Gerry Curro

Dear Bernard Cornwell, I'm reading the first serie of Sharpe : Sharpe's Tiger. It's wonderful ! The story is really interesting and I definitely find my hero in Sharpe. I know of course the TV series and it's like the book : amazing ! And it's a good thing you add love stories. It softens the story which is sometimes hard, to read and to watch ! ;-) But don't worry, I love it !!!! I bought the three other following books and I'm looking forward to reading them. I hope you're going on to write other books of Sharpe, my hero! Regards Cathy

Dear Mr. Cornwell, Your books - from 'Sea Lord' to 'Sharpe's Escape' - have given me so much pleasure. I hope that you will continue writing for years and years (and years and years...). I recently discovered "Starbuck' through our library, and cannot wait to own all of the series. Will there be another 'Sharpe' book anytime soon? Please? (My neighbour and I are really hoping for a 'yes' to that question!)

You will have been asked this question a thousand times I`m sure, but when will there be a new Sharpe novel out, if ever? I ask this as I only started reading again a couple of years ago and I really do enjoy the tales of Richard Sharpe. Just come across this web site so I thought I`d ask. Thanks. Dave.

Yes! As a matter-of-fact, I am writing a Sharpe now and hopefully it will be published in the Spring of 2006.

Dear Mr Cornwell, A first time for everything. Thanks for the enjoyment that the Arthur books gave me. The Last Kingdom I have just finished, really brassed off, did not want it to finish. Probably typical of a nearly 60 yr old who hated history all those years ago. Seahouses will never be the same again! Thanks again for the tremendous enjoyment, Graham Currie

Dear Mr. Cornwell, Your works are masterful and addictive. I found myself at the point of watching Sharpe on DVD, before going to bed, reading the Grail series, and finally passing out to more Sharpe as audio on my MP3 player. If your novels were printed on rice-paper, then I would truly find all my sustenance in your works :) I have only one small request. Please, please choose Rome next! I loved TLK and am eagerly awaiting Pale Horseman...but the late Roman Republic is my favourite period of history and its agony to not read your take on that period. Thank you very much, Sincerely Antony Pegg

Dear Sir, I have been a fan of Sharpe for several years and been frustrated at the lack of the T.V series here in Australia. Then all of a sudden out of the blue UK TV on Pay TV starts the series in prime time 8.30pm last night [ Saturday ] now all we need to do is get The History Channel to show Sharpe's War. Thank you for All of your books Les Randles

Thanks for letting us know!

I wanna tell that I've read your book about Arthur King and this trilogy was the best thing I've ever read. Please Keep writing. Paulo Omarini from Brazil !

Dear Bernard another poster asked about whether you have consdiered writing about the Thirty years war. And I could heartily endose that. Gustuvus Adolphus/Count Tilly and the most succesful mecenary of all time Wallenstien (Belivie it or not he makes Sharpe look like a saint) were three of the greatest generals not just of the age but of all time and they went at it hanmmer and tongs. While the fighting flared up over all Europe which savagery far exceeded the Napoleonic wars (Madgeburg quarter) and many Brits fought in those wars with many mainly Scots under Adolphus and many Irish under Tilly and Wallenstien. With the English on both. btw on another note can I reccommend Carlo Geblers new book on the The Siege of Derry. It's quite recent but once I purchsed it I could not put it down. Thanks Geraint

Thanks for the recommendations.

I had not even heard of you until last December, probably due to the fact I have lived in Africa and the Middle East since 1974. Since then, starting with 'Gallow's Thief' I have read 9 of your books, mainly Sharpe books and have just started a tenth. I would just like to say that I found them extremely good and totally absorbing and have learnt alot of early 19th century history as a result, they fill in the gaps before the Flashman books! Thank you. David Yates

Q

Just like to say I was at the Masterclass you and Phillipa Gregory hosted at London Book Fair. I really enjoyed it and you both inspired me. Not that I've got a huge novel waiting for the right publisher or anything. But it did give me the confidence to have a go at some research which might have a story to it. Little steps ... and all that. But thanks again for really interesting afternoon. Tricia Golledge

Hello, my name is Matthew and I am writing to you to just say thank you for writing the Richard Sharpe series, I love the books and Sharpe, they are wonderful stories of a well thought of and descriptive character set in historic times. I remember seeing the BBC series with Sean Bean, very young and being fascinated with the stories, now I found them in writing and I am very grateful for your creative works! I hope to see Sharpe and his adventures in the future. Thank You once again! Matthew Pack
