Dear B. Cornwell Thank you for the your statement in the Danish papaer, Berlingske Tidende: The Vikings discovered Russia, they discovered, they created. They travelled to Sicily to the Middle East - to Greenland. They created the long ship and it became their survivor. The Vikings were men- real men and the women- real women... they conqured , they were free, they represent fredom!! yes you are so right - Freedom and it is such a wonderful feeling. Though in Southern Europe we are misjudge as "easy women" but we are nothing but FREE. Thank you for a wonderful book & interview. The very best MIA

I just finished reading The Last Kingdom, the first book of yours that I have read and just wanted to congratulate you on such an enjoyable read. I loved the book and so look forward to the sequel. Carol Katz

Q

I just love your books and so far have read nearly all of them except the Sharpe (well I have read a couple) I am putting together the full sharpe set so I can read them all in order. I just finished the Starbuck set and will not ask the obvious question. Keep up the good work, your writing is fabulous!!! Jeff Lacey

Hi, I was going to ask about The Starbuck Chronicles but your faqs answered my query so just congratulations on a well laid out & presented site. A pleasure to look at. Cheers from DownUnder, Roland

Q

Just a couple of points: What a great idea to have a bookmark handy for the names in The Last Kingdom and its sequels. I'm halfway through my autographed copy of it now and also often find myself turning back to the list and the map. I also agree with not modernizing the spellings for the same reason as someone else posted, that it helps in the transporting of my imagination. As for turning the Arthur trilogy into a movie (or two), maybe you should personally send a copy to Peter Jackson. I'd do it myself, but I can't afford it and I'm not giving up my copies! Please don't ever retire! Darlene Campbell

Greetings! I've been an avid fan of your ever since stumbling across one (either one of the sailing thrillers or an early Sharpe) in the local library. It's always a highlight when a new book hits the shelves. Regarding the most recent postings on the siege of Malta, Dorothy Dunnett wrote about the seige in The Disorderly Knights volume of the Lymond Chronicles. Anyhow, please keep up the writing and the website; they both bring a great deal of pleasure. Thanks, Tom

Q

I just finished The Last Kingdom, when will the sequel be coming out? I can't wait, it is a wonderful book! I couldn't put it down. I want to see what happens to Uhtred. I now must read all of your other series of novels, You are a wonderful author! Virginia Kratzar

Thank you for "The Last Kingdom" What a treat! Can't wait for the next release. Uhtred is every bit as appealing as Sharpe, who has always been one of my favorite characters. I've purchased a number of your books and have read the rest. The only series I didn't completely enjoy were the Nathaniel Starbuck Chronicles. Keep providing us with Sharpe & Uhtred, and I'll keep buying books. Kind regards.

Mike McGuire

The next book - now likely to be called The White Rider will be published in the UK in October of this year.

Q

What are you doing to my family? I received the following note from my Father: "I checked Amazon-UK's site to order the usual Spring Sharpe book and was disconcerted to see none listed. The next book coming out will be in October, and that's a sequel to The Last Kingdom. Drat!!! I went to Cornwell's website (he's a chatty guy, if you have any questions - or threats -for him) and I found an answer to a reader's query that indicates the next Sharpe novel will be in 2006... maybe. I'm gggggetting the sssshakes." Love, Jacob

A

Sorry Jacob - no Sharpe book this spring. But I've just started the next Sharpe book, so perhaps next spring?

Q

I really enjoyed the Arthur books, romance, betrayal, blood and guts plus a bit of magic, when guts and death were a part of life !. I found them here in Mexico, and read all three in about 6 days. I often live in Aquae Sullis, so it was great to hear about all these places I know. Anyway great entertainment ! Wicked ! Kind regards, Loz

I just read the Auther series and I absolutely love it! You had me from the first sentence of the first book. I am now going to go and get more of your books! Andrew Palmer

Re the posting of ( 04 MAR 05): Mario DeBono of Malta needs to read Ernle Bradford's book THE GREAT SIEGE. Published at least 20 years ago it is a great read, as are most of his works.

More on the Great Siege of Malta: Bradford's book was first published in 1961. After my knee-jerk response to Mario DeBono's note last night I was inspired to pull it out this morning. The subject would make a great novel or series for you. The story is full of larger-than-life people like the comander of the Knights, Jean Parisot de le Valette, his Executive Officer Oliver Starkey, Sultan Suleiman the First, Dragut the Pirate, The conniving women of Suleiman's seraglio( The right term for what most Europeans call the harem), Emperor Charles the Fifth, Mustapha Pasha and the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem. De la valette alone is worth a novel. He was 70 at the time of the siege( The same age as the Sultan). He had been a galley slave of the Turks for years and later captured his captor whom he sent sent to the oars of the Order's galleys. The Order was a hotbed of intrigue among its eight national groups ( Known as Langues); Valette was the only non-Italian who had ever been elected General of the fleet, which office he held before becoming Grand Master. Bradford says of him " To have attained such an age after a life of constant warfare a man had to be fantastically hard. To have attained such an age with physical strength and mental ability unimpaired, a man had to be almost superhuman". You could develop the character of a young man who became a knight participated in the great adventures culminating in the siege. I'm sure that I would not be alone in enjoying such a story as you could make of this. Keep on writing so I can keep on reading, Ed Sprague
