Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell, I just read an interview you gave in 1997 where you said you were writing entertainment, not literature. I'll not debate whether your books "present ideas of permanent or universal interest" (Webster's definition of literature) - war-heroism-loyalty-love-struggle-friendship, but you are surely an amazing and marvelous storyteller and unless I am mistaken, most of classic literature started out as great stories. Your books may not be classed as great literature, but I'd be willing to wager that people will still be reading them long after the angst-ridden, navel-gazing doom-saying that pretends to pass for literature now has been long gone. Thank you and don't stop writing those wonderful stories! Roberta Parker

Q

Dear Sir, I'm a Romanian doctor in military mission in Iraq. First time, I was still in Romania, I saw the series about Sharpe's adventures; coming to Iraq, I found 2 of 3 books from The Grail Quest (1 & 3) and I read with huge pleasure. Please, let me thank you for those marvelous moments your books offered! And excuse my English! Popa Sorin

Q

I just found out about your books!! I will have to check them out-I found this site because I have been searching for YEARS for more of Susannah Kells-I have read my hardback copy of Fallen Angels until it fell apart. I have been trying to replace it and I thought I had heard there was an earlier book so now I know to look for A Crowning Mercy! I hope to find a new copy of Fallen Angels! That book has been such a part of my life! It has to be in the top 5 of my favorite books(and I have read a lot since I began reading at age 3!) Please beg your wife to continue the story of Campion and Gitan-they are like old friends I've lost contact with-I want to hear more! Thanks for such a GREAT read! Kim Heleine

Q

Dear Sir, I realize you are extremely busy and thank you for taking time to read my comments. I am a longtime fan (64 years of age) of Richard Sharpe and Nathaniel Starbuck and have read your explanation for Starbuck's vacation however, I disagree with your reason. You are an excellent author with a God-given talent for writing/telling excellent stories and I do not feel that you there is a running together of either of the characters. Your talent is reflected in writing in different time frames/ages yet being able to keep the stories separate and I admire your abilities. I have been waiting for some nine years to see where Nathaniel Starbuck will resurface or "march again" and hope he will before you decide to retire. Thank you for your time and talent. God bless you and yours. Gordon Kaufman

A

Thank you for your message. I believe Starbuck will march again before I retire.

Just finished Vagabond. Simply superb ! Gamargaritis

Q

Mr. Cornwell, I'm 62 years of age have not read but a handful of books of fiction in my lifetime-I stumbled upon Richard Sharpe quite by accident (foolishly thinking "Waterloo" was non-fiction) What a glorious read! I am hooked! Currently I'm reading the final Starbuck and reading my 7th Sharpe, and "Enemy of God." Thank you of many hours of enjoyment-Sharpe, Starbuck and Derfel are my kind of men. Many thanks! Bob

Q

Man I hated when Horgan died, and really became disappointed when he did not get his regiment, but the last book was golden - Waterloo. Then I found out this was not the end and am feverishly seeking out the others. As an officer who came up through the ranks I love your work. There are three great historical writers YOU, Forrester/Hornblower, and Frazier/Flashman. Magnificent job, and I love the character of Dogget in Waterloo, hope he doesn't buy the farm. Cheers, John Lewis

Q

I have written to you before but I have just read "Sharpe's Escape" and I loved it. I even did a book report in school about it. I'm thinking of joinng the Sharpe Appreciation Society, that's how much I love Sharpe. I often wish for a time machine that will bring me back to the time period you write about. I'd go without hesitation. Can't wait till the next Sharpe edition. Keep it up. Clay Davis

Hope you got a good grade on your report!

Q

Mr. Cornwell, The Sharpe series is extremely well written. So much so that it makes me feel like I am marching right along side Sharpe, Harper, Hagman, and the rest of the 95th under Sharpe's command. I wish you the best of luck on further Sharpe books, for as you say at the end of each, Sharpe and Harper will march again. Sincerely, Jake F. Atlanta, Georgia

Q

I have derived great pleasure from reading all of your novels over the last 15 years. Historical accuracy combined with attention to detail and a fast pace are the trademark of all of your books. Uhtred will give you a whole new series Just be a bit kinder to the Welsh in the follow up to 'The Last Kingdom'!! Gareth Rees

A

I shall be as kind to the Welsh as they were to the Saxons, but you'll be pleased to know that in the last two or three chapters of the follow-up a Welshman virtually takes over the book - and he's definitely a good guy.
